Programming update: monthly podcasts and weekly newsletters
Each podcast episode is now accompanied by a series of newsletters
👋 Hi, I’m Mike and I’m obsessed with startups with no customers. This is a quick note about my publishing plans for Nascent 🪺.
You may have noticed something different lately with the Nascent podcast and newsletters. Here are the details.
I first published the Nascent newsletter in January 2024 followed by my first podcast in February 2024, as part of an effort to build in public. Throughout 2024 and 2025, I published only 18 times because I focused on running workshops instead. These workshops showed me that some (but not all) founders of startups with no customers are “hurting” and a dedicated strategic playbook could provide “pain relief”. My challenge was that I kept having one-off conversations about this, which felt frustrating since they didn’t generate any lasting assets.
To that end, in March 2026, I resumed publishing Nascent with Episode 019 and announced my plan to publish a weekly podcast along with a companion summary newsletter for the next 100 weeks. Little did I know that a 1:1 ratio of podcast to newsletter would be brutal. I did this for 10 weeks, through Episode 029, and found it to be like sprinting a marathon in marketing that left no time for my true passion: supporting founders directly, not just publishing guidance from the sidelines.
So starting with Episode 030, I’ve got a new plan. At least for now, every podcast episode will have an accompanying series of newsletters — an initial summary, followed by deeper dives into key points from the podcast. A ratio of roughly 1:4, one podcast with four newsletters. To hopefully make it easier to follow, I’m using a numbering system that shows the relationship between the podcast and newsletters. When I publish a new podcast, it comes with a summary (e.g., Episode 030). Then the following week I’m publishing 030.1 as the first deep dive, the next week 030.2 as the second deep dive and so on.
So if you’re new to Nascent, I recommend that you start by reading/listening to Episode 019 and work forward from there. As always, I welcome your feedback and look forward to continuing to support founders of startups with no customers. Nascent is especially useful for founders of funded startups that are pivoting — if that’s you, let’s talk. Schedule time with me here: https://nascentidea.com/
Ok, founders. You got this!
For the past 10 years, I’ve been building Nascent as the strategy for startups with no customers. As of 2026, I’m publishing Nascent, a few ideas at a time, in regular newsletter posts and podcast episodes. For more, check out Spotify, Apple Podcasts and YouTube.
